The Beginning of Metal and Background Heavy Metal is a subgenre of Rock. Rock is a hybrid between black and white music. Also was a mix of rural and urban music. When People came to the urban areas with rural music, they needed louder instruments to penetrate the amount of noise urban areas made. People started using electric guitars rather than acoustic. Metal uses the distorted electric guitar. Hard Rock like Led Zeppelin and Deep purple inspired metal. The difference between Hard Rock and Heavy Metal is that in Hard Rock the Guitar follows the vocal line, while in Metal, the guitars are used as Jazz instruments, there's more snare drums and use of the double base pedal. Black Sabbath was the first metal band, formed in 1968. Their genre is the original Heavy Metal which uses; featured heavy riffs, distorted power chords, mystical lyrics, guitar and drum solos, vocals usually ranging from wails to whines. The popularity of Heavy Metal went down during the end of the 1970's because of the disco age.
